Greetings from Nelson: A Seaside Paradise
This past weekend New Zealand celebrated Labour Weekend. (In New Zealand, Labour Day is a public holiday held on the fourth Monday in October. Its origins are traced back to the eight-hour working day movement that arose in the newly founded Wellington colony in 1840.) But for myself and my family we were also celebrating my mothers birthday! So I decided to pack up my holiday bag and road trip up to their hometown (Nelson, New Zealand) and suprise her for her birthday dinner! But whilst up there I managed to collect some free time and decided to put on my tourist hat and explore! Nelson is reknown for it’s fine, fresh food, friendly people and amazing creative enviroment. One of the amazing places I visisted and caught some snaps of was Eclectic Antique Centre, a fantastic old two story building fiilled with some of the most astounding vintage finds! It is run by a wonderfully stylish woman whom I wish I had gotten a photo of! Think 60’s upper class crossed with 70’s flower power! Absolutely brilliant!

I also managed to stop by one of the Nelson Art Festival events; The “OI YOU” Urban art show! This was held in a huge circus themed shed located in Founders Park (A Heritage Park is the brain child of Nelson Residents who wanted to share some of Nelson’s history. Original historic buildings were donated to the organisation and many historic replica buildings were created. Over 20,000 items were also donated by Nelson residents. It was opened up to the public in 1986)
The Oi You Urban art show featured three components. Urban art entries from Young artest throughout New Zealand, Cut Collective’s Public access 5 “Picture perfect world” Ft Hone Stjohn ,works from artest such as Banksy, Faile, Micallef, Os Gemeos, Swoon and others.
[Cut Collective Featured their fifth iteration of the Public Access exhibition which marks a renewed focus on topical matters and a concentrated collaborative process.Working around the central theme of “Picture Perfect in a World of Chaos”, this show deals with the representation of a world that is a palpable fantasy, and looks to explore the ridiculous nature of the variant realities we receive through multiple media channels.
